Tango Etude No. 3, Molto marcato e energico

by Astor Piazzolla

Recorded for the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, Inspirations!

Astor Piazzolla combined his experience performing in tango orchestras with classical training to pioneer Nuevo Tango. His evolution from amateur music to touring musician to composer/arranger inspires artists to embrace growth and illustrates the positive aspects of exposure to music of other cultures. While some were not ready for his Nuevo Tango at the time, Piazzolla's approach to combining jazz and classical elements with tango brought it to the concert halls, creating a lasting legacy.

The Stars and Stripes Forever

by John Philip Sousa

In 2016, the Dallas Winds set a world record for the most piccolos playing the Stars and Stripes Forever. With live music put on hold in 2020, I decided to record my rendition of the piccolo solo from the march with a track from the U.S. Navy band.

Etude No. 9: Diverse

by Wil Offermans

This piece features many extended techniques found in 20th-century repertoire...key clicks, tongue slaps, and blowing in the instrument without making a full tone to name a few.  In pieces like this, exaggeration is key! The audience craves more of these unique features. Of my recording the composer wrote, “Congratulations Jennifer, that’s a great performance and recording.”

Carmen for Four, II. Andante, quasi Allegretto

by Georges Bizet, arr. by Trudy Kane

When Wm. S. Haynes, Co. flute makers introduced their #flutesongsofcomfort campaign, this music from Carmen came to mind immediately. My high school band performed an arrangement of music from Carmen my 1st year, and it was my first experience with opera. I fell in love! A few years later, I saw Carmen performed live and was so excited to relive the memories its melodies brought to mind. Also, it was my first opera-going experience!
